Anora won the Oscar for Best Picture, beating out nine other films, including Edward Berger's The Clave, Brady Corbet's Brutalist, and Coralie Farjit's Substance.

The award went to writer/director Sean Baker, producer and collaborator Samantha Quan, and his longtime producing partner Alex Coco.

Overall, the night was a triumph for Anora, which took home five gold statues, including Best Actress for Mikey Madison, Best Editing, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

During his acceptance speech, Baker made an impassioned plea to save movie theaters across the United States. He asked filmmakers to keep making movies for the big screen, distributors to focus on theatrical releases, and people to keep watching movies in theaters. Anora is the story of a Brooklyn exotic dancer who meets and falls in love with the spoiled son of a Russian oligarch. When the couple marries on a whim, a turbulent chain of events begins.
