Cannes Film Festival bans provocative 'nude' outfits

10:35, May 12

The Cannes Film Festival has banned provocative 'naked' outfits. On the red carpet of the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which starts on May 13, stars will be forced to cover up and, apparently, finally wear underwear.

The organizers have introduced new nudity rules, developed "for the sake of decency." According to them, such measures are an attempt to suppress the celebrity trend of "naked dresses."

"For reasons of decency, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as in any other area of the festival," the Cannes Film Festival document says. "The teams hosting the festival will be obliged to deny access to the red carpet to anyone who does not comply with these rules." Guests are expected to flock to the Grand Salle Louis Lumière for some of the biggest film screenings during Cannes' jam-packed seven-day schedule.

The iconic venue now has a more conservative dress code, favouring suits, tuxedos and floor-length evening gowns over flashy, sexy ensembles.
