Snoop Dogg is criticizing LGBTQ+ representation in children’s movies as he suggests it leads kids to “ask questions” that he says he doesn’t have the answers to, PEOPLE writes. 

The rapper’s criticisms arose during a recent podcast appearance, during which he recalled one of his grandsons’ reactions to seeing a family with two mothers while watching Disney and Pixar's 2022 movie Lightyear in theaters. (One scene in the Toy Story spin-off involves a character saying she has a wife, and the couple is briefly shown kissing and later welcoming a baby son.)

In the Aug. 20 episode of the It's Giving podcast, Snoop, 53, recalled his grandson’s reaction (in a moment that has since been removed from the episode on YouTube, but remains in a clip shared on Instagram). In the movie, the rapper told host Sarah Fontenot, “They’re like, ‘And she had a baby … with a woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She a woman!'”

“Oh s---," the musician recalled thinking in the theater. "I didn’t come here for this s---. I just came to watch the goddamn movie."

Rather than answer his grandson’s inquiry about the family, Snoop said he told him, “Hey man, watch the movie.” But the little one still had questions, asking the rapper, “Uh uh. They just said, she and she had a baby. They’re both women. How did she have a baby?”

According to his reenactment of the moment on It's Giving, Snoop then shushed his grandson, said, “The movie ain’t over with,” and told him to eat his popcorn. (He later said he was just there to “go to sleep and watch the movie,” but was instead woken up to his grandson’s questions.)

"It’s like, I’m scared to go to the movies now,” the rapper — who has seven grandchildren — said. “Y’all throwing me in the middle of s--- that I don’t have an answer for.”

“It threw me for a loop,” he added. “I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. … I don’t have the answer.”

Earlier in the episode, the rapper also said, “they're putting it everywhere,” seemingly in reference to LGBTQ+ representation.
