Legendary American singer Frank Sinatra, known as the “Chairman of the Board,” left behind not only timeless songs but also letters filled with raw emotion. One such rare letter, written in 1964 following the kidnapping of his son, Frank Sinatra Jr., is set to be auctioned at Bonhams’ Unplugged & Unforgettable Music Auction, reports the New York Post.

The six-page letter is addressed to prison chaplain Frank Roger Smith. In it, Sinatra expresses his shock and anger over the events of 1963, when 19-year-old Frank Jr. was abducted by Barry Keenan and Joe Amsler. With the assistance of the FBI, Sinatra paid a ransom of $240,000 and successfully secured his son’s safe return.

“The emotions conveyed in this letter reflect a man speaking candidly, without concern for public perception. This rare vulnerability makes the letter especially valuable to Sinatra fans,” said Katy Allen, pop culture specialist at Bonhams in Los Angeles.

Interestingly, the kidnappers claimed that Frank Jr. had staged his own abduction for fame. In the letter, Sinatra strongly refutes these rumors: “Their behavior in promoting the idea of a ‘mystification’ was, in my view, yet another crime against society. The shadow of suspicion cast over my son will continue to negatively affect his life and career.”

The letter remained in the family thanks to a unique backstory: the father of the current seller worked with Chaplain Smith in the prison, and the chaplain gifted the letter to the family in 1964.

The six pages of history are expected to fetch up to $30,000 at auction, offering fans a rare glimpse into the personal world of one of the greatest stars of the 20th century.
