Estée Lauder has officially opened L’Atelier at La Maison des Parfums in Paris, a space where fragrance artistry meets science and artificial intelligence, reports WWD.
“We’re thrilled about this milestone, as it marks a major step in our strategy for accelerating fragrance innovation worldwide,” said Stefan de la Faverie, CEO of Estée Lauder Companies.
Spanning 21,530 square feet across five floors at 14–16 Rue Volney, La Maison des Parfums combines craftsmanship, technology, and creativity. AI plays a central role, helping speed up the creation and launch of new fragrances.

“For me, Paris is the cradle of perfumery,” de la Faverie added. “Here we have access to world-class perfumers, proximity to suppliers in Cosmetic Valley, and a wealth of creative resources.”
The Paris hub complements Estée Lauder’s global ecosystem of innovation centers in the U.S., Canada, and China. While these hubs explore beauty innovation broadly, La Maison des Parfums focuses specifically on perfumes and fragrance innovation.
“Through L’Atelier, we’re reimagining the entire fragrance creation process,” said Sumit Bhasin, Senior Vice President of Global Fragrance Innovation. “This is not just a lab—it’s a living embodiment of Beauty Reimagined, where art meets science, imagination meets precision, and collaboration sparks breakthrough ideas.”

Perfume has been integral to Estée Lauder since 1953, when the brand launched Youth-Dew, redefining self-indulgence through fragrance. The company later introduced Aramis, the first prestige men’s fragrance in global department stores.
La Maison des Parfums blends history and modernity. On the first floor, visitors encounter wall-mounted fragrances and archival collections. The Salle des Lumières narrates the brand’s heritage, while the Salle de Musique at the top floor serves as the Atelier’s creative heart—where fragrances are composed like musical symphonies, turning notes into accords.
The center is equipped with molecular analysis tools, supercritical CO₂ extraction, and systems monitoring patents and regulations. L’Atelier supports new product formats, from shower gels to bath salts, fully integrating data to accelerate innovation.

“We continue to explore untapped possibilities in fragrance, focusing on emotional and personalized aspects of scent,” added Bhasin.
Art and fragrance are intertwined: works by Polly Apfelbaum, Sig Harvey, and Marc Quinn adorn La Maison des Parfums and L’Atelier. “For me, perfume and art are part of the same world,” de la Faverie emphasized.
Every detail of the interior was designed to evoke a sophisticated Parisian apartment—the essence of what perfumery should feel like.
