Kim Kardashian is under fire for carrying an ultra-rare Hermès Birkin reportedly made from elephant leather. The controversial bag appeared in an episode of her new Hulu series, All’s Fair, sparking an immediate uproar on social media.

In an interview with Vogue Hong Kong, stylist Soki Mak—who worked with Kim on the look for the show—was also photographed backstage holding the same accessory.

According to PETA, Hermès has officially never sold elephant leather products. However, in the 1980s, the brand did reportedly create a few bags using the hide of animals said to have been shot on safari. Today, such rare pieces fetch upwards of $125,000 on the resale market.

Luxury expert Daniel Wesson (@birkinjunky) shared a frame showing Kardashian holding the bag, and reactions were immediate. Among the critics was 30-year-old Ireland Baldwin, who wrote in a comment, “This is… beyond the pale.” She later posted a story on Instagram, saying, “This is disgusting and shameful. I don’t understand how people continue to support this.”

Hundreds of comments poured in under @birkinjunky’s post: “I love Birkins, but elephant leather—this is a whole other level. These are sentient animals, how is this even allowed?” “This woman has no boundaries!!!” “This is where I draw the line.”

Some, however, defended the reality star. “This bag was made decades ago. She didn’t order it and does not support hunting,” they argued.
