Shakira and Roger Waters’ private island hits the market for $30 million

23:01, January 30

A private island in the Bahamas, once envisioned as a celebrity retreat, is back on the market for the first time in 20 years after a group of investors—including Shakira and Pink Floyd musician Roger Waters—failed to bring their ambitious project to life.

Known as Bonds Cay, the island is part of the Berry Islands archipelago and was originally purchased by the investor group in 2006. The plan was to transform the 800-acre Caribbean paradise into a luxury enclave featuring a boutique hotel, apartments and villas, private beaches, and an exclusive art retreat for a select few.

The vision was to create a private community where some investors could spend part of the year, while artists showcased their work to wealthy residents and visitors.

However, the plan never materialized, and now the island is up for sale again—offering a rare opportunity to own a pristine slice of paradise just an hour’s flight from Florida.

“This is one of the most breathtaking private islands in all the Bahamas: 650 acres of untouched nature, from powder-white beaches to turquoise shallows stretching for miles. Islands of this size that remain entirely pristine are extremely rare,” said real estate agent Gavin Christie of Corcoran CA Christie Bahamas.

Although Shakira, Waters, and their partners never realized their art-focused paradise, Christie notes that their ambitious plans may inspire future buyers.

With a price tag of $30 million, Bonds Cay ranks among the most expensive private islands in the Bahamas.
