Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has announced his engagement to partner Étienne Busquet-Cassagne. The 50-year-old shared the news in a joint statement on Instagram.

The couple posted a photo smiling and clinking glasses, accompanied by an official message in both German and English:

"We are delighted to confirm that Ralf Schumacher and his partner Étienne Busquet-Cassagne are engaged to be married. We are both deeply touched by the many warm congratulations."

They emphasized that they do not plan to share further personal details and asked for their privacy to be respected.

Coming Out and Family Support

Ralf, the younger brother of motorsport legend Michael Schumacher, who suffered a severe brain injury in a 2013 skiing accident, publicly came out as gay and revealed his relationship with Busquet-Cassagne in the summer of 2024. At the time, he shared a photo of the couple embracing against a golden sunset during a boat ride.

Support has poured in from his family, including his son, racing driver David Schumacher. “I’m so happy you’ve finally found someone you feel comfortable and safe with — whether it’s a man or a woman. I’m 100% on your side, Dad,” David wrote in a comment.

Ralf shares parenting of 24-year-old David with his former wife, Corinna-Koralin Schumacher. The couple married in 2001 and officially divorced in 2015. Corinna-Koralin publicly congratulated Ralf, telling German outlet Bild that she wishes them happiness and that, to her knowledge, the celebration could take place in May in Saint-Tropez, lasting three days.

Ralf Schumacher raced in Formula 1 from 1997 to 2007 and retired from professional motorsport in 2012.
