French fashion powerhouse Hermès is expanding its presence in China with a stunning new flagship store. The five-story, standalone boutique has opened in Taikoo Li, the upscale Sanlitun district of Beijing, marking the brand’s fourth location in the capital since 1997. The new space seamlessly blends contemporary Parisian craftsmanship with rich local cultural heritage, creating an environment designed for exploring the full Hermès universe.

The building immediately commands attention with its architecture. Designed by Parisian studio RDAI in collaboration with Mamou-Mani Architects, the structure draws direct inspiration from the imperial architecture of the Forbidden City. Curved roofs with glazed tiles and sunlit tones are echoed in the façade, while the outer shell of pink terracotta ceramic panels creates a semi-transparent veil, letting natural light flood the interior and striking a delicate balance between openness and privacy.

Inside, each floor offers a distinct experience. Lighting, materials, and atmosphere evolve seamlessly as visitors ascend, immersing them in Hermès’ 16 core categories, including silk, footwear, equestrian goods, prêt-à-porter, leather, and fine jewelry. Each floor becomes its own “world,” inviting exploration and discovery.

The thoughtful integration of local cultural motifs with French artisanal expertise makes the new Sanlitun flagship more than just a store—it is a living space that celebrates the dialogue between Chinese heritage and the creative spirit of Hermès.
