Rolls-Royce unveils £3.5M Nightingale — ultra-luxury electric convertible for elite clients

23:02, April 15

Rolls-Royce has unveiled the Nightingale, a new £3.5 million electric convertible that marks the brand’s first open-top electric vehicle. Only 100 examples will be produced, each built to order for the company’s most exclusive customers.

The Nightingale inaugurates a new chapter in Rolls-Royce’s Coachbuild programme, positioning itself not simply as a car, but as a fully bespoke luxury object. The design draws inspiration from Art Deco aesthetics and the golden age of automotive styling in the 1920s and 1930s. Designers also referenced experimental Rolls-Royce prototypes and the nautical elegance of the French Riviera, aiming to create a vehicle defined less by performance and more by silence, motion, and presence.

Measuring 5.76 metres in length and riding on massive 24-inch wheels, the Nightingale has the proportions of a sculpture on wheels. Its silhouette is defined by a long bonnet contrasted with a compact two-seat cabin set deep within the body. The flowing exterior lines evoke a yacht hull, with a continuous visual line running from front to rear, reinforcing the impression of effortless motion even when stationary.

The vehicle is fully electric and engineered for near-silent operation. According to Rolls-Royce engineers, driving with the roof down allows occupants to hear not mechanical noise, but the surrounding environment — wind, waves, and even birdsong. This sense of silence is central to the concept behind the Nightingale.

Inside, the cabin is designed as a private lounge for two, finished in soft tones of blue and white with accents of rose gold and dark wood. The interior avoids clutter, instead focusing on carefully crafted details such as sculptural controls and concealed compartments, each treated as a jewellery-like element.

Personalisation is at the core of the project. Each of the 100 cars will be hand-built and extensively customised in collaboration with its owner. Rolls-Royce emphasises that no two Nightingales will be identical, with every vehicle intended as a unique expression of its owner’s taste and identity.
