Wedding turns into nightmare: Bride doused in black paint minutes before ceremony

17:17, April 18

A British bride was left covered in black paint just moments before she was due to walk down the aisle, after what prosecutors described as a calculated act of revenge by her sister-in-law, Kent online reports.

The incident took place in Maidstone, Kent, where 35-year-old Gemma Monk was walking arm-in-arm with her father toward her wedding ceremony when she was suddenly called by name. In the next moment, she was splashed with black paint that covered her face, chest, and wedding dress.

The attacker was later identified as Antonia Eastwood, 49, the wife of Monk’s brother. Eastwood had reportedly been banned from attending the wedding due to an ongoing family dispute.

According to Monk, tensions between the two women began a year earlier following a disagreement linked to Eastwood’s own wedding. The conflict escalated over time, ultimately resulting in her exclusion from the ceremony.

Despite the ban, Eastwood reportedly arrived at the venue and carried out the attack before fleeing the scene.

Photos from the incident show the bride in a white gown stained with dark paint across her face and dress, resembling mud splatters.

Remarkably, Monk managed to compose herself after the attack. She changed into a spare dress, and the ceremony went ahead just two hours later.

“We had waited so long for this day. Nothing was going to stop me,” she later said.

Monk also revealed that she had recently suffered serious health concerns, including a suspected cancer scare that caused significant weight loss. She said Eastwood was aware of her condition, making the attack even more distressing.

During court proceedings, Monk described the emotional impact of the incident, saying it left a lasting psychological effect and changed her perception of what should have been the happiest day of her life.

A court found Antonia Eastwood guilty of two counts of criminal damage. She was sentenced to a 10-month prison term, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 160 hours of community service.
