Meghan Markle has once again found herself at the centre of controversy after launching a new line of $64 scented candles reportedly inspired by her children, a move that has allegedly irritated figures within royal circles.
According to sources cited by Page Six, the Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle brand As Ever has released two limited-edition candles dedicated to her son Prince Archie and daughter Princess Lilibet. The products were introduced ahead of Mother’s Day and include references to their names and birth details in the marketing descriptions.
Each candle is priced at $64 and promoted as part of a home collection featuring soft, “cozy” fragrance profiles. The Archie-inspired candle reportedly includes notes of ginger, neroli, and cashmere, while the Lilibet version is described as blending amber, water lily, and sandalwood.
However, the branding strategy has triggered criticism from sources close to the royal establishment, who reportedly view the use of the children’s royal titles in commercial context as “outrageous.” The concern references previous understandings following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping back from senior royal duties in 2020, when it was agreed that royal status would not be used for commercial gain.
Further attention has been drawn to reports that the couple has secured trademarks and digital assets linked to their children’s names, a move supporters describe as standard brand protection, but critics argue it increasingly blurs the line between private family life and commercial enterprise.
Sources close to the couple maintain that Meghan is careful in how her children are referenced in promotional material, ensuring their identities are protected and avoiding full public exposure, while framing the brand within a broader “family lifestyle” narrative.
