The glove, believed to date back to around 1984, is being offered by Nate D. Sanders Auctions, with bidding set to close on April 30. The starting price is $50,000.

The accessory became inseparable from Jackson’s signature image following his groundbreaking performance of “Billie Jean” during the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television special. It was during that appearance that he first performed the iconic “moonwalk,” cementing his status as the King of Pop.

In a 1999 interview with Barbara Walters, Jackson explained his choice in simple terms, saying he wore a single glove because it “looked cooler than two.”

According to the auction house, the item comes with documented provenance. Jackson reportedly gifted the glove in 1984 to artist Paul Bedard, who worked with him during the Thriller era and contributed artwork for the Neverland estate.

The glove is made of light-colored fabric, heavily decorated with crystals, and shows signs of wear, including minor scuffing and fabric stress, but remains in very good condition.

Interest in Jackson’s legacy has recently increased ahead of the upcoming biographical film “Michael,” in which his nephew Jaafar Jackson will portray the singer.
