The Fast & Furious franchise is officially shifting gears into the streaming world, as Dominic Toretto’s “family” universe prepares to expand beyond the big screen.
During NBCUniversal’s recent presentation in New York, Vin Diesel announced that a live-action Fast & Furious television series is currently in development for Peacock. According to Diesel, the project marks a significant new chapter for the blockbuster franchise, which many fans previously believed would conclude with its highly anticipated eleventh feature film.
However, Diesel’s announcement initially caused some confusion. In his enthusiastic speech, the actor claimed that “Peacock is launching four shows from the Fast & Furious universe,” though industry insiders later clarified that only one live-action series has officially been greenlit for development at this stage.
Diesel explained that expanding the franchise into television has been a long-term goal for nearly a decade, but only recently became feasible under the leadership of NBCUniversal chief Donna Langley. He specifically praised Langley for helping bring the project to life while preserving the core identity of the franchise.
According to Diesel, maintaining the spirit of the original films is essential — including the global scale, character-driven storytelling, and, most importantly, the central theme of “family” that has defined the series from the beginning.
At this point, specific plot details, casting information, and a release timeline remain under wraps. It is also still unclear whether the series will feature beloved legacy characters or introduce an entirely new generation of street racers within the Fast & Furious universe.
