The “Royal Pop” collection consists of eight bioceramic models inspired by pop art aesthetics and a philosophy of “positive provocation.” The concept pays homage to Swatch’s original 1980s POP line, but reinterprets it in a bolder, more experimental way, transforming the watch from a traditional wrist accessory into a design object and even a small art installation.

The central idea of the collection is a departure from wrist-worn timepieces. Instead, each model comes with a calfskin lanyard featuring contrast stitching, allowing the watch to be worn around the neck, attached to a bag, or simply carried in a pocket. For more stationary use, a removable stand turns the piece into a desk clock.

From a design perspective, the collection is divided into eight colour variations, symbolically referencing the eight screws and octagonal bezel of the original 1972 Royal Oak. The models are split into two technical configurations: six Lépine versions with a crown positioned at 12 o’clock and a two-hand display, and two Savonnette versions featuring a side crown and a small seconds subdial.

Strong emphasis has been placed on visual expression. For example, the HUIT BLANC model features a white bioceramic case with a bezel where each of the eight screws is coloured differently. More vibrant versions, such as OTTO ROSSO in pink-red tones or ORENJI HACHI in a dark blue and orange combination, enhance their impact through contrasting strap stitching.

The more complex LAN BA and OTG ROZ models showcase layered colour compositions, including transparent casebacks that reveal decorative movement elements and coloured accents.

Despite the experimental exterior, the collection is built on serious engineering foundations. At its core lies an updated hand-wound version of Swatch’s SISTEM51 automatic movement, protected by 15 patents. It offers a 90-hour power reserve and features a Nivachron™ anti-magnetic balance spring developed in collaboration with Audemars Piguet. Through the sapphire caseback, parts of the movement are visible, including a signature barrel drum that visually indicates power reserve levels.

The collection is set to launch on May 16, 2026, and will be available exclusively at selected Swatch boutiques.
