Bella Hadid is paying tribute to a late fashion icon at the Cannes Film Festival, People writes.
The 29-year-old model walked the red carpet at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on May 20 wearing custom Schiaparelli, in a look reminiscent of the late actress and singer Jane Birkin, who inspired the popular Hermès bag.
Hadid's ivory gown, designed by Schiaparelli's artistic director Daniel Roseberry, was made with trompe l'œil lace embroidery, composed of cords and anchor threads, according to a press release. The dress features a plunging neckline accentuated by a black pendant and a tiered mermaid train.

The gown took 22,160 hours of embroidery work to create, and involved the "expertise of 130 artisans," per the release.
The model paired her look with diamond earrings and a geometric diamond ring, plus a slicked-back updo.
Hadid's dress features several of the same details as Birkin's, which the actress wore to Cannes nearly six decades prior in 1969. Birkin's gown bore the same black beaded embellishment, which served to hold the plunging neckline together, as well as a very similar lace embroidery pattern.
Hadid wore her Birkin-inspired dress for the screening of La Bataille De Gaulle: L'Âge De Fer (De Gaulle: Tilting Iron), which chronicles the famed French general's military career and debuts on June 10.
