The movie will be directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Romain Gavras and will be based on an investigative book about the sensational crime. Although several suspects have already been arrested, the stolen jewels have still not been recovered, fueling global fascination with what many are calling one of the most spectacular art-world crimes in recent history.

Publisher Flammarion confirmed that the screen rights to the book about the October 19, 2025 robbery have already been acquired by production company Iconoclast.

The book, titled Main basse sur le Louvre (“Taking Over the Louvre”), was written by three leading journalists from Le Parisien, Le Monde, and Paris Match. It is scheduled to hit bookstores this Wednesday.

Romain Gavras — widely recognized for his visually striking style — will direct the adaptation.

According to industry magazine Le Film Français, the project is already in development. Neither the official title nor the cast has been revealed yet, but industry insiders are already predicting major international success for the film.

Last year’s raid on the world’s most visited museum shocked the global public and triggered a major security crisis inside the Louvre itself. The scandal became so severe that it ultimately led to the resignation of the museum’s director, Laurence des Cars.

Seven months into the investigation, detectives still have no trace of the stolen treasures. The main suspects are behind bars, but the royal jewels appear to have vanished without a trace. “The disappearance of the treasures has become a dead-end mystery. It’s a puzzle that has left investigators completely baffled,” the authors of the investigative book wrote.

The journalists also argue that the case highlights a dangerous growing trend: “For many criminals, art theft has become a business like any other. The underworld has discovered a new cash cow.”
