Caleb Shomo, the frontman of American metalcore band Beartooth, and his wife, Fleur Shomo, have officially filed for divorce nearly two months after the musician publicly came out as gay.
According to Page Six, the couple jointly filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court. They do not share any children.
Caleb and Fleur married in April 2012 and spent 14 years together. In May, the 33-year-old musician shared an emotional statement in which he publicly spoke about his sexuality for the first time.
"I can proudly say that I'm gay," Shomo wrote at the time.
Despite the unexpected announcement, Fleur publicly voiced her support for her husband. She admitted that the news had been painful and disorienting, but said she still has deep respect for Caleb and asked fans to show him the same compassion.
Speaking later on the Disrespectfully podcast, Shomo recalled how difficult it was to have that conversation with his wife.
"I was just crying, trying to find the words. I was terrified," he said.
According to the musician, he told Fleur that he had spent years running from his true self.
"There's something inside me that I've been running from for a very long time. And I don't want to do that anymore," he said.
Since coming out, Shomo has begun attending therapy and has acknowledged that he still has a long journey ahead as he continues learning to fully accept himself.
