A landmark moment for Armenian gastronomy: Tsaghkunk Restaurant & Glkhatun has become the first restaurant from Armenia to be included in The World’s 50 Best Discovery, bringing international attention to the country’s evolving culinary scene.
As part of The World’s 50 Best platform, The World’s 50 Best Discovery is a global guide featuring outstanding restaurants, bars and hotels, selected through the expertise of the international 50 Best community. It highlights remarkable culinary destinations, helping travellers and food professionals find places that represent excellence, creativity and a strong sense of place.

The inclusion of Tsaghkunk marks a significant achievement for Armenian gastronomy. Prior to this recognition, the restaurant was featured in La Liste, one of the world’s leading restaurant guides, and received international media coverage from publications including Forbes, The Guardian, National Geographic, Vogue and other global media outlets. This new distinction further establishes Tsaghkunk Restaurant & Glkhatun as one of the leading voices representing contemporary Armenian cuisine on the global stage.
Founded in 2021 as part of the Gagarin Project by DAR Foundation, Tsaghkunk Restaurant & Glkhatun is located in the village of Tsaghkunk, around a 10-minute drive from Lake Sevan and approximately one hour from Yerevan.
The restaurant was created with the aim of developing a contemporary Armenian culinary identity while strengthening connections between local ingredients, producers and communities.

Since its opening, Tsaghkunk has played an active role in the development of Armenia’s gastronomic scene through collaborations with internationally recognised chefs. One notable collaboration was with Mads Refslund, co-founder of the original Noma in Copenhagen, who spent almost a month at Tsaghkunk in 2021, exploring Armenian ingredients, culinary traditions and local producers and creating a series of dinners.
Tsaghkunk continues to organise collaborations and culinary projects with Armenian and international chefs, exploring new expressions of contemporary Armenian cuisine. These international exchanges have brought new perspectives to Armenian cuisine, inspired local chefs and contributed to the growth of a more dynamic gastronomic culture in Armenia.

At the heart of the restaurant is Glkhatun, a historic building dating back to the 11th century and restored by DAR Foundation. During the restoration, ancient architectural elements and underground clay ovens (tonirs) were uncovered and preserved. Today, these elements remain part of the dining experience, including the traditional preparation of Armenian lavash.
Tsaghkunk works closely with ARTER regenerative organic farm and Armenian farmers, supporting responsible agricultural practices and showcasing the diversity of local ingredients.

A defining element of Tsaghkunk is its people. The restaurant team consists largely of local residents and young people from the region who have developed their skills within the project. Together with local producers and artisans, they form the foundation of Tsaghkunk — a restaurant deeply connected to its community and surroundings.
