King Charles and Prince William’s Relationship Is Also Far From Perfect

16:29, July 24

Prince Harry isn’t the only one with fractured ties to the royal family—King Charles III and Prince William can’t boast a particularly warm relationship either, according to knowledgeable sources speaking to Page Six. "William’s problem is that he genuinely believes he knows better than everyone else," said royal biographer Hugo Vickers.

Author and royal expert Robert Jobson adds: "A couple of years ago, there were serious disagreements and a number of issues between them. However, William will have to rise above it if he intends to become king. Both he and Charles understand perfectly well that they must work in tandem: the decisions Charles makes directly impact William’s future."

"Constant Battles," Yet Seamless Professional Synergy

Despite these so-called "constant battles," the 77-year-old monarch and his 44-year-old heir maintain a strictly polite and civilized relationship. "They meet and communicate regularly; there is no critical crisis between them," Jobson explains.

In the new biography William and Catherine: The New Era of the Monarchy. Inside, royal expert Russell Myers delves deeper into the evolution of their dynamic. Myers notes that Charles and William were brought together by shared external turmoil: the Sussexes' (Harry and Meghan) scandalous move to the US, and the high-profile scandal surrounding Prince Andrew over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

Insiders confirm that William played a pivotal role in the decision to strip his uncle, the disgraced former Prince Andrew, of his titles and evict him from the Royal Lodge residence. "While the King loves both his sons equally, his bond with the Prince of Wales strengthened noticeably during these periods of family hardship and public attacks," Myers quotes a source as saying.

The Brothers' Divergent Paths

Earlier this month, Prince Harry traveled to the UK and brought his children—7-year-old Archie and 5-year-old Lilibet—to meet their grandfather, the King, for the first time in four years. While Harry was visiting Charles at Highgrove House, William and Kate Middleton were at a polo match just an hour’s drive away, pointedly avoiding a reunion.

Robert Jobson notes that William is fully aware that he and his brother have vastly different duties and distinct dynamics with their father. While Charles remains open to taking steps toward his younger son—despite the explosive memoir Spare and the Netflix docuseries—William has no intention of forgiving his brother. "I am certain William will not pursue any reconciliation with Harry. He has made his position crystal clear... They are on completely different paths," Jobson concluded.

A Future Monarch with His Own Vision

As for the Prince of Wales’s self-assurance and his conviction that he "knows better than everyone else," biographer Hugo Vickers views it as a potential strength rather than a flaw. "Let’s give him a chance. He could very well turn out to be a great, strong king."
