The 33-year-old pop star Ariana Grande shocked fans with an announcement: following the conclusion of her "Eternal Sunshine" World Tour on September 1, she will be taking an indefinite hiatus from her career. Due to this decision, the singer has also been forced to withdraw from the musical production of Sunday in the Park with George, where she was set to star alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.

A representative for the artist confirmed that Grande decided to "step back from the spotlight" to focus on restoring her physical and mental health.

Sources close to Page Six revealed the underlying factors that influenced the singer's decision:

• Relentless Stress and Burnout: The singer has operated under a grueling schedule for the past few years, balancing film shoots, album production, and a massive global tour.

• Severe Body-Shaming: The main catalyst has been continuous, aggressive scrutiny surrounding her appearance. A fresh wave of public debate over her "unhealthy thinness" swept across social media following the release of her "Petal" music video, in which she appeared in a form-fitting black outfit.

• Personal Life Pressure: Intense media focus on her breakup with Ethan Slater—and her subsequent reconciliation with ex-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez—only added fuel to the fire.

"She loves being back on stage, but she is thoroughly exhausted. Ariana has never handled intense press scrutiny easily, and constant speculation around her weight makes everything worse," an insider shared.

Producers of the London production of Sunday in the Park with George expressed their full support for Grande, stating they completely understand how difficult this step was for her. The premiere at the Barbican Centre has been pushed to summer 2027, with a new lead actress to be announced later.

According to close sources, Ariana is currently focused on spending time with family and loved ones, recharging her batteries without any strict deadlines for her return to the stage.
