Elon Musk has once again sparked a fierce reaction on social media by responding to a satirical post about purchasing the United Kingdom in order to "establish freedom of speech."

The joke went viral after the American satirical website The Babylon Bee published a fake article claiming the billionaire had acquired the UK. Musk replied to the post on X with a short phrase: "How much is it?"

This comment instantly caught users' attention because it exactly mirrored a story from nine years ago. In 2017, a social media user jokingly suggested that Musk buy Twitter, to which he replied in the exact same way: "How much is it?". Five years later, in October 2022, Musk actually finalized the acquisition of the social network for 44 billion dollars, explaining his decision as a fight for freedom of speech.

Even though The Babylon Bee's article is pure satire and Musk has no actual intention of buying the UK, fans immediately recognized the familiar pattern.

Musk and The Babylon Bee's Longstanding Connection

The Babylon Bee shares a long history with Musk. In March 2022, Twitter blocked the satirical site's official account over a joke about U.S. administration official Rachel Levine. The platform's administration deemed it a violation of hate speech rules and demanded the post be deleted, but the site refused.

Later, the publication's CEO, Seth Dillon, revealed that Musk personally contacted them after the ban to discuss the situation and even inquired about the possibility of buying the social network. After Musk officially took over the platform, The Babylon Bee's account ban was lifted.
