“Genocide Barbie” Is BFFs With AI: The Internet Furious Over Gwyneth Paltrow’s Secret Party for ChatGPT Creator

14:02, August 20

Gwyneth Paltrow has faced a fresh wave of fierce online criticism after a “secret” invitation to a party hosted in honor of controversial OpenAI CEO Sam Altman surfaced on social media.

The Goop founder has once again come under fire over the mysterious invitation, which quickly spread across social media. The note was reportedly intended for an event celebrating controversial OpenAI chief Sam Altman, although the exact reason he was chosen as the actress’s guest of honor remains unclear.

Followers branded the 53-year-old Hollywood actress and beauty entrepreneur “evil” and “awful.” The backlash comes amid recent criticism over questionable advertising collaborations and her comments that she “doesn’t feel anything” about politics. The latest wave of negativity toward the Oscar winner also follows reports that Gwyneth Paltrow allegedly saved a woman’s life during the September 11 terrorist attacks thanks to a chance encounter.

Details of the Mysterious Invitation

The mysterious message that surfaced online reads: “Gwyneth Paltrow invites you to a private off-the-record dinner outdoors at her home in honor of Sam Altman.” The letter was written in blue ink and decorated with a floral border, a drawing of the sun, two doves and a vase of flowers.

Fans immediately began questioning why Altman was being honored, while others wondered which celebrity might have leaked the confidential invitation. The unusual letter listed a Goop email address as the official contact for confirming attendance, prompting users to flood the inbox with fake RSVPs, according to Express US.

Online Reaction: “Completely Out of Touch With Reality”

Reddit users reacted furiously to the latest controversy involving the Marty Supreme star:

  • “Gwyneth, please. Turn your brain on already.”
  • “She just keeps doubling down on being awful. Every single time.”

Others slammed the actress for honoring the controversial tech entrepreneur and creator of ChatGPT.

“I guess I’m not surprised considering who we’re talking about, but every day I’m stunned by how little people care (or how completely lacking in awareness they are).”

“Not only is she ‘Genocide Barbie’ who starred in an ad for Israeli real estate, now she’s buddying up with some AI CEO.”

“Why is she getting more and more evil? It looks cartoonish, like a supervillain.”

The Guest of Honor and the Eerie Aesthetic of the Invitation

Gwyneth’s guest of honor has also attracted plenty of attention because of his controversial record. Altman has faced scrutiny over internal conflicts at OpenAI, tensions surrounding the aggressive commercialization of artificial intelligence, safety concerns and widespread criticism of his views on technology. In 2023, the then-41-year-old Altman briefly stepped down as head of OpenAI after the board said he had not been sufficiently candid with its members. He was also accused of psychological manipulation and failing to adequately follow safety protocols, contributing to a difficult workplace environment.

Some observers also drew attention to the invitation’s strange wording and unusual design, which many compared to the aesthetic of the 2019 cult horror film Midsommar.

  • “Why is this so creepy? I don’t think I have a problem with this aesthetic normally, but in this context the anthropomorphic sun is giving me chills...” one Reddit user wrote, prompting a succinct response: “Midsommar vibes.”
  • Another joked: “Lol, ‘off-the-record dinner’ — come to my dinner where ‘we all want to say something absolutely horrible.’”, mocking the invitation’s bizarre wording.

The controversy follows Paltrow’s appearance in an advertisement for a luxury residential development in Israel and her recent admission that her husband considers her a “Republican” after she said she “doesn’t feel anything” about politics.

“Wow, she’s speed-running the ‘I suck’ allegations this year — between this, the AI Israel ad and the ‘my husband thinks I’m a Republican’ comment (you clearly are one, loser!),” one fan fumed.

Although the origin of the invitation has yet to be officially confirmed, fans continue to speculate about exactly how it ended up in the public domain.
