Mark Zuckerberg Buys 19th-Century Irish Castle for Tens of Millions of Dollars

13:03, August 21

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have purchased a Gothic castle in Ireland. The property is Strancally Castle, a three-story 19th-century estate set on roughly 440 acres along the River Blackwater.

The deal was completed in recent weeks, according to The Irish Times. The castle was previously owned by the family of financier Michael Allen-Buckley. The newspaper estimates that the historic estate could be worth between $23 million and $35 million.

Zuckerberg’s representative, Brian Baker, confirmed the purchase and said the billionaire’s family plans to continue caring for the historic property.

“Mark and his family are excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland, where Meta has its international headquarters,” he said.

Strancally Castle looks like something straight out of a Gothic film. Its three-story stone tower spans around 16,000 square feet and overlooks the River Blackwater, while the surrounding estate stretches across hundreds of acres.

The purchase is particularly convenient for the family as well: Meta’s international headquarters are located in Ireland, meaning the Zuckerbergs now have their own historic castle not far from the company’s base.
