In her famous hit Jenny From The Block, Jennifer Lopez sang about how “I used to have a little, now I have a lot” — and that philosophy seems to define her entire life.
At 57, the singer has no plans to slow down. Instead, she continues to pile an enormous workload onto an already packed schedule. According to Daily Mail, the star has signed a major deal with global fashion powerhouse Dolce & Gabbana that will reportedly earn her $20 million.
The new contract is only a small part of the superstar’s ambitious plans. Her packed schedule for the coming months includes:
“She is working like crazy because she wants to stay constantly busy, although people around her are concerned that she could burn out,” a source close to the singer told Daily Mail. “But this is how she keeps herself sane during this strange period of her life.”
The “strange period” refers to a series of major changes in Lopez’s personal life. First, Jennifer is single again following her painful and difficult divorce from Ben Affleck. Second, her twins — Max and Oscar (formerly known as Emme) — are set to leave for college in just a few weeks, leaving the singer alone in an increasingly empty home.
“It’s a difficult time for Jennifer. There are so many changes happening, and it’s very emotional. But she finds comfort in constantly working, especially since her career is thriving,” the insider said. “She just works, works and works! She loves being a workaholic and has incredible drive. She’s a typical Leo — she never wants to be in the shadows.”
According to the source, Lopez would rather work than sit alone at home.
“She would much rather wake up at 5 a.m., work a 14-hour day and complain about nothing. But one day she could wake up completely exhausted.”
Jennifer has experienced something similar before. The singer previously spoke candidly about reaching her breaking point in 2002 while filming the thriller Enough, in which she played a woman escaping domestic abuse.
“There was a period when I was incredibly overworked. I was doing music, movies, a million things at once,” she recalled in a 2008 interview with The Daily Telegraph. “I was sleep-deprived. And I had a kind of nervous breakdown. I just froze on set — or rather, in my trailer. I was sitting there thinking, ‘I don’t want to move, I don’t want to talk, I don’t want to do anything.’ It was on that movie... Yes, I really did have a nervous breakdown.”
Nearly two decades later, J.Lo still appears to have trouble hitting the brakes — while the scale of her demands has grown even more extravagant.
The star’s financial demands match her status. She reportedly earns around $10 million per movie, and when she serves as a producer through her company, Nuyorican Productions, she can take a substantial share of the profits.
On top of that, maintaining her glam squad comes with a hefty price tag for event organizers.
Every red-carpet appearance reportedly requires around $40,000 just to cover the cost of her glam team, including three stylists, three makeup artists, two hairstylists, a manicurist and personal photographers.
But brands are willing to absorb those costs because they know the commercial return Lopez can generate.
“It’s an investment. Everything she touches makes money.”
