A Bangkok bartender was caught on camera shaving a female customer’s head after she allegedly tried to leave the bar without paying her bill.

According to Viral Press, the woman was reportedly well known to club and restaurant owners in Bangkok’s Pinklao district, having allegedly walked out without paying her bills on multiple occasions.

On August 25, the woman reportedly entered a popular bar using what was believed to be a fake ID. By the end of the night, she had racked up a bill of 60,000 Thai baht — around $1,812 — before allegedly attempting to slip out unnoticed.

She did not get far.

Staff at the bar reportedly stopped her and demanded that she settle the outstanding bill.

But, according to reports, the woman did not have the money to pay. She then allegedly agreed to a bizarre arrangement: instead of being handed over to police, she would have her hair completely shaved off.

Footage shows the young woman, dressed in a strapless white dress, apparently agreeing to what was described as a “hair purchase agreement.”

A man can be heard saying off-camera: “I’m not taking advantage of you. This is the market price. I’ll make the paperwork for you. I’ll also add a little more to the amount. Okay?”

The bartender then picks up an electric hair clipper and begins shaving off the woman’s thick, shoulder-length hair.

According to the report, the shaved hair was allegedly intended to be donated to charity.

But the bizarre incident has sparked fierce debate, with human-rights activist Chalida “Ton Or” Phalamar, founder of the Thai NGO Be One Foundation, saying the bar staff had crossed the line.

Phalamar said representatives of the establishment contacted her, apologized and admitted that the manager had acted out of anger and impulsiveness. They also reportedly promised to contact the woman’s family and discuss compensation.

“I sympathize with them and understand that they need to make a living. But the way they handled the situation was clearly unlawful,” Phalamar said.

She stressed that a hair-sale agreement made under pressure would have no legal validity. Forced shaving, she said, could potentially be considered assault, coercion and unlawful detention.

Phalamar also said Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security could become involved in investigating the incident.

She urged business owners not to take the law into their own hands — even when customers refuse to pay their bills.
