HBO has sent fans into a frenzy by releasing a new trailer for its highly anticipated television adaptation of Harry Potter. The ambitious series aims to reimagine J.K. Rowling’s iconic wizarding universe, with each book being adapted into its own television season.

The title role of Harry Potter is played by newcomer Dominic McLaughlin. He will be joined on screen by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, as the trio begins their journey at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The new trailer offers viewers a glimpse at some of the key moments from the first season, which will cover Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone:

• The Golden Trio’s arrival at Hogwarts and the iconic Sorting Hat ceremony.
• Harry’s introduction to the teaching staff and his first magical lessons, from Potions to broomstick flying and Quidditch.
• Some of the story’s most memorable moments, including the trio’s investigation into the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone, the battle with the mountain troll in the girls’ bathroom, the giant wizarding chess match, as well as the use of the Invisibility Cloak and the Mirror of Erised.

The eight-episode first season is scheduled to premiere around Christmas. Given the enormous scale of the project, HBO has already renewed the series for a second season, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Alongside the young newcomers — including Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy and Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom — the series has assembled an impressive roster of British and international screen veterans:
