Cartier has unveiled the Tank Américaine in a skeletonized version for the first time, exposing the movement that has traditionally remained hidden behind the dial. At the same time, the maison has introduced a new version of the watch featuring a striking gradient burgundy dial.

The Tank Américaine’s instantly recognizable elongated, curved case, first introduced in 1988, remains unchanged. But beneath it lies a far more daring construction.

The two new skeleton versions are powered by the manual-winding Calibre 1988 MC, whose name pays tribute to the year the model debuted. Cartier has transformed the movement’s bridges into Roman numerals, effectively turning the mechanism itself into the dial. The components follow the curves of the case, emphasizing the watch’s distinctive vertical silhouette.

The movement features 24 jewels, operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and measures just 4.2 mm thick.

The platinum version features a faceted winding crown set with a ruby and blued hands. It comes with two alligator-leather straps in burgundy and dark gray.

The rose-gold model is distinguished by a sapphire cabochon set into the winding crown and comes with dark blue and gray straps. It offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.

Both skeleton versions measure 44.4 × 24.4 mm, with a case thickness of 8.24 mm.

A New Shade of Burgundy

The third new release takes a completely different aesthetic direction. The Tank Américaine Large in platinum is powered by the automatic Calibre 1899 MC and features a rich gradient burgundy dial.

Its depth comes from a combination of opaline and satin finishes, while the distinctive color is achieved through multiple layers of lacquer. Rhodium-plated steel hands and a matching burgundy alligator-leather strap complete the look.

The case measures 44.4 × 24.4 mm and is 8.6 mm thick.
