Sharon Stone has recalled a humiliating incident from the early days of her television career in the 1980s, when she unexpectedly discovered that her used underwear had been put up for sale.

The 68-year-old actress, who rose to fame with her provocative role in Basic Instinct, opened up about the disturbing experience, which prompted her to change the terms of her future contracts to ensure that nothing like it would ever happen again.

In an interview with Variety, the star said she insisted on adding a clause to her contract requiring her costumes to be returned to her after filming. The provision was included in her contract for the 1995 film Casino, in which she starred opposite Robert De Niro.

“I put my costumes into my contracts back in the ’80s, and everybody laughed at me,” Stone recalled.

Stone explained that a deeply troubling incident had prompted her to insist on the clause.

“I was doing a television series, and one day I walked outside and saw my underwear and bras being sold on a folding plastic table,” the actress said. “I was incredibly embarrassed, and I thought, ‘This is just humiliating for me as a woman.’”

Afterward, Stone decided to seek advice from other actresses and asked her manager to draw up new terms for her future contracts.

Stone did not specify which television show the incident occurred on.
