A Hollywood actress bought burner phones, spent thousands of dollars and helped her fraudster boyfriend flee California as his lavish Malibu lifestyle began to unravel.

Lucinda Jane Weist Manera, known for her roles in “Demolition Man” and “Predator 2,” helped Bernhard Eugen Fritsch hide in Mexico shortly before he was due to appear in federal court again, according to a sentencing memorandum from prosecutors reviewed by Los Angeles Magazine.

Prosecutors acknowledged that the 63-year-old actress was “under the romantic influence of a charming and skilled liar” when she helped the businessman evade justice.

Prosecutors are now asking the court to sentence Manera to 18 months in prison. She pleaded guilty to one felony count of assisting a criminal after the commission of a crime.

According to new details, on May 31, 2025, Manera paid $3,500 to a man who flew to Los Angeles the following day to help Fritsch leave the country.

The actress also purchased two phones at Best Buy to be used for covert communications so that she and Fritsch could stay in contact while he was on the run.

In April 2025, Fritsch was convicted of wire fraud in connection with a massive scheme involving his Santa Monica-based technology company, StarClub Inc. Prosecutors said investors had handed the company tens of millions of dollars.

Despite his conviction, Fritsch remained free on an $8.2 million bond while awaiting a June 2 hearing, after which he could have been sent to prison even before his final sentencing.

Instead, he fled.

According to prosecutors, Manera helped her boyfriend evade authorities for several months. Fritsch was eventually arrested in Mexico, but he managed to escape Mexican authorities as well.

On September 24, prosecutors allege, Manera authorized a $534.23 charge to her bank account to pay for a hotel in Mexico City where Fritsch was staying.

The following day, he boarded a plane and flew to Munich.

By that time, Manera was already in Germany, having arrived there on September 16. Her attorney, James Blatt, told Los Angeles Magazine that the actress did not meet with Fritsch in Germany.

Fritsch arrived in his native Germany on September 25. The following day, Manera was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport.

The escape came after years of lavish living for Fritsch, which prosecutors say was financed with money obtained by defrauding investors in StarClub and its celebrity-focused app, StarSite.

Fritsch claimed that the company was generating millions of dollars and was on the verge of lucrative partnerships, investments and acquisition offers from major entertainment-industry players, including Disney.

StarClub actively surrounded itself with Hollywood glamour. The company hosted events attended by celebrities, and singer Enrique Iglesias was also associated with the project.

According to prosecutors, however, Fritsch himself spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle.

His purchases and expenses included an extensive renovation of his Malibu mansion near Carbon Beach, a McLaren supercar, a Rolls-Royce and a yacht.

Federal authorities later seized both vehicles and the yacht.

Prosecutors said that one investor alone gave Fritsch $22 million over a two-year period after being persuaded by his promises. In total, the losses exceeded $25 million.

In October 2025, Fritsch was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in federal prison. He was also fined $35,000 and ordered to pay $26,806,901 in restitution.

His subsequent attempt to overturn his conviction was rejected while he remained on the run.

The FBI later added Fritsch to a new list of its most wanted fraudsters and offered a $150,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, according to Los Angeles Magazine.

“The government’s investigation into Fritsch’s activities is ongoing,” prosecutors said in court filings. “Fritsch, who is currently wanted and is believed to be residing in Germany, is likely monitoring the progress of these proceedings.”

Manera, who was previously married to director Jim Manera, is scheduled to be sentenced in October. She faces up to five years in prison.
