At fashion weeks around the world, traditional runway shows increasingly seem to be giving way to unexpected performances. But what happened at Milan Fashion Week appears to have surprised even the most seasoned fashion crowd, according to the New York Post.

On September 22, Diesel creative director Glenn Martens presented the brand’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection. At first, everything looked fairly conventional, with models walking down the runway one after another to showcase the brand’s latest looks.

Then, however, the lights in the venue suddenly turned red — and something completely unexpected began.

Models who had previously blended into the audience suddenly started kissing, moaning and acting out provocative scenes right among the guests. Donna Summer’s Love to Love You Baby played in the background.

At one point, the audience was confronted with an especially provocative scene: a man in the front row was seen deliberately sucking his fingers.

Martens himself explained that the performance was part of his desire to do something unexpected every season.

“Every season we try to do something unpredictable. This one was a little more… experimental,” the designer said backstage, according to the Associated Press.

According to Martens, the provocative performance was intended to reflect Diesel’s philosophy.

“I think the idea of celebrating love for your body and love for each other is part of Diesel’s DNA,” he said.

The collection itself was no less eccentric. Knitwear appeared to unravel, gradually transforming into denim and leather. Shorts became increasingly shorter, while the final looks left the models wearing little more than a narrow strip of fabric at the back.

One of the men’s looks even resembled denim underwear — and certainly not the most obviously comfortable kind.

The unusual performance immediately sparked a heated reaction on social media. Thousands of users described what they had seen as “tasteless,” “disgusting” and “absurd.”

Model Luca Morne, who witnessed the spectacle, posted a video on Instagram and admitted: “I have never been this confused in my entire life.”

“What happened to society?” one user wrote in the comments.

“Can we just look at the clothes at fashion shows?” another complained.

Some users on X were even more blunt, saying the performance had literally turned into an “orgy.” Others admitted that they were unable to focus on the collection itself because of the performance.

There were, however, also those who enjoyed Diesel’s experiment.

“Oh, yes! This is exactly how you bring a runway to life,” one fan wrote.

Despite the divided reaction, Glenn Martens received a standing ovation at the end of the show.
