Forget lottery tickets — apparently, there may be a far more lucrative option these days: simply opening a bag of Goldfish crackers. At least, that is what some eBay sellers seem to believe, listing unusual fused crackers for thousands of dollars. And for the ultimate “jackpot” — six Goldfish stuck firmly together — one seller is asking an astonishing $25,000.

“$25,000 for something I used to accidentally vacuum off the floor of my minivan,” Instagram user @gida.content joked in a viral video, according to The New York Post.

The unusual phenomenon is genuinely rare: several crackers can fuse together during production, either during the cutting or baking process. What was once considered nothing more than a funny manufacturing defect is now being marketed by some internet users as a genuine collector’s item.

A search for “Rare Goldfish Cracker” on eBay brings up around 180 listings. The most optimistic sellers are asking as much as $1,500 for entire “schools” of four fused crackers. Others are offering four separate pairs for $600.

Not long ago, finding several Goldfish stuck together in a bag was simply something to brag about to your classmates — before promptly eating the unusual find along with the rest of the crackers.

Now, however, the internet appears to have created an entirely different market. Listings such as “Rare 4 Cheese Goldfish Crackers Fused Together in a School” and “Ultra Rare Fused Goldfish School — Collector’s Item” are aimed at buyers willing to pay for bizarre food-production defects.

And fused “fish” are not the only Goldfish oddities being sold on eBay. Some sellers are offering defective packages, unusual shapes and deformed Goldfish for as much as $500 apiece. One listing features an “ultra-rare, one-of-a-kind purple-red Goldfish cracker with a manufacturing defect.”

But can fused Goldfish really become the next big investment — or has the internet simply cooked up another elaborate prank?

Opinions among users are divided. Some are already joking that they are heading to the grocery store to stock up on bags of Goldfish and a hot glue gun in hopes of making a fortune.

Others, meanwhile, insist they have literally eaten away an entire fortune over the years, since fused crackers have always been their favorite.

Reddit users have dubbed the unusual specimens “Siamese twins” among Goldfish.

Skeptics, however, point out that a high asking price does not mean anyone is actually willing to pay it. Some suspect the listings could be part of a viral marketing campaign or simply an attempt to attract attention.

One Instagram user said they sent a seller a $1 offer for a cracker listed at $12,000 — and the offer was allegedly accepted immediately.

“If you look at the sold items, none of them have ever sold. I can list dryer lint on eBay for $36,000. That doesn’t mean it’s worth that much,” another commenter pointed out.

Other users have already linked the Goldfish frenzy to the broader economy. One joked that, amid difficulties in the job market, they were considering building a career out of gluing crackers together.

The big question remains: is anyone actually willing to pay $25,000 for six fused cheese crackers?

So far, there are no confirmed sales at anything close to those astronomical prices. Which means the real treasure here may not be the Goldfish at all — but the imagination of eBay sellers.

Goldfish, of course, are far from the only snack that the internet has tried to turn into an easy-money opportunity. Users have also pointed to the thriving market for unusually shaped Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. One commenter said an acquaintance had made hundreds of dollars selling particularly bizarre-looking pieces.

As one user aptly summed it up: “People will buy anything.”
