‘I’d Kill Him’: Groom Calls Bride by Her Sister’s Name at the Altar, Leaving Guests Stunned

14:34, October 2

Wedding-day nerves can make even the most composed groom lose his cool. But one man managed to call his bride by another woman’s name at the most important moment of the ceremony — and, to make matters worse, that woman was her own sister. The awkward slip was so shocking that the internet is still struggling to forgive him.

“Imagine standing at the altar while your husband calls you by another woman’s name,” Emma wrote as she shared footage from her own wedding, which quickly became a viral sensation.

The video, which has racked up more than 2.2 million views, shows the groom professing his love and promising to spend the rest of his life with “Emily” — even though the woman standing in front of him is not Emily, but his bride, Emma.

“Well, plot twist,” Emma wrote sarcastically in the caption. “That’s my sister’s name.”

But the internet was far less forgiving of the wedding-day blunder.

Furious social media users began debating whether they would have been able to continue with the ceremony if they were in Emma’s position.

“I’d kill him,” one commenter declared emotionally.

“I would literally turn around and call off the wedding,” another wrote. “This is the most humiliating wedding outcome imaginable. I’m so sorry.”

Hundreds of viewers immediately recalled the iconic scene from Friends in which Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer, accidentally says another woman’s name — Emily — during his wedding ceremony.

Some commenters saw the groom’s slip not simply as an embarrassing mistake, but as a potential red flag.

“If even a part of you thinks something is off here, you’re right,” one user wrote. “It really is very strange, and sometimes the smallest details can expose the biggest lie.”

However, despite the flood of warnings about possible “red flags,” not everyone believes that such a slip of the tongue is grounds for calling off a wedding.

Psychologists have previously warned that not every uncomfortable incident on a wedding day should automatically be dismissed as a harmless mistake. According to psychologist Carly Dober, quoted by the publication, situations like this can sometimes point to deeper relationship issues, particularly when one partner’s feelings are repeatedly dismissed or invalidated.

Emma herself, however, saw nothing sinister in her husband’s mistake.

To her, it was simply an awkward slip of the tongue — not evidence of hidden feelings for her sister.

“If it had been a random name, I would have had QUESTIONS,” she replied to one concerned commenter. “But my sister is my best friend. I’m not worried at all.”
