Paris’ Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève was transformed for one evening into the setting for one of Valentino’s most striking shows. Creative director Alessandro Michele asked guests to bring books to donate, while naming the Spring/Summer 2027 collection “Antibiblioteca.”

Around 100 looks appeared on the runway, ranging from caps emblazoned with “Villain Teen” and sequin-embellished sweaters to lavish jewelry, fishtail dresses, fringe and tassels. Vivid colors, contrasting prints and unexpected fabric combinations turned dressing up into the ultimate expression of luxury.

Yet the collection was not literally about books or libraries. At its heart was Michele’s fascination with the idea of possibility. In the accompanying notes, the designer compared clothes we may never wear with books that remain unread on shelves for years.

For some, they represent missed opportunities; for others, they are a promise of something new. Michele translated that idea into clothing, encouraging us to forget about practicality, consumption and the specific purpose of a garment and instead embrace its potential.

That is why Valentino Spring/Summer 2027 feels like a celebration of freedom and experimentation — filled with vivid hues, sequins, fringe, tassels, bold prints and unexpected combinations of materials.

Valentino offers a simple reminder: not every garment has to be practical. Sometimes the opportunity to dream, play and imagine yourself living another life is reason enough to dress up.
