From Crown to Ring: Former Miss Germany Trades the Runway for Professional Boxing

11:20, October 6

Former Miss Germany Tatjana Heinrich has made a dramatic career change. At 33, the model is preparing to make her professional boxing debut, leaving the runway behind for the ring.

Heinrich was crowned Germany’s most beautiful woman in 2022, and next month she will step into the ring for her first professional fight in Magdeburg, returning to the sport she first took up as a child.

Heinrich was once an amateur boxing champion in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt in the flyweight division, winning the regional title from 2007 to 2009. Recently, the model explained why she decided to take up boxing as a teenager.

“I was often bullied at school, and I wanted to find a way to defend myself. That’s how it all started,” she revealed.

Heinrich later attended a sports school in Halle, where she caught the attention of boxing promoter Ulf Steinforth. Years later, after Heinrich had become a successful model, he got back in touch and suggested that she try her hand at professional boxing.

Promotional company SES Boxing hopes Heinrich could become the next star of German boxing.

“Tatjana could follow in the footsteps of Regina Halmich. She has all the qualities she needs, incredible charisma and enormous ambition,” representatives of the company said.

During a professional career that spanned from 1994 to 2017, Regina Halmich won 54 of her 56 fights and became one of the most successful women in boxing history. Like Heinrich, she also appeared as a model in German magazines.

With her first professional fight scheduled for November 14, Heinrich has already begun an intensive training program. She now puts in full training sessions at the gym five days a week.

She is being prepared for her debut by trainer Dirk Dzemski, who guided Robert Stieglitz to a world championship title in the 2010s.

Heinrich is continuing to work in the modeling industry alongside boxing. She owns her own modeling agency, which represents around 80 models.

She also has a personal goal: to inspire young women through her example and encourage them not to be afraid to explore different career paths.

“I want to be a role model for young women and show them that it is possible to succeed both in your career and in sport,” Heinrich said.

According to the model, the skills she developed in the fashion industry — including working on her posture, running and choreography — are now helping her prepare for the ring as well.
