Sydney Sweeney has long been compared to the modern-day Marilyn Monroe — and now it turns out that the resemblance may run much deeper than previously thought.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the 29-year-old Euphoria star is indeed related to the legendary Hollywood actress.

A new genealogical study conducted by MyHeritage has uncovered a connection between Sweeney’s father, Steven Sweeney, and Marilyn Monroe’s biological father, Charles Stanley Gifford.

The two men share a common ancestor, Ezra Perry, who lived in Massachusetts as far back as the 17th century.

Sweeney has never publicly spoken about a possible family connection to Monroe, but she has repeatedly appeared on red carpets in looks reminiscent of the legendary blonde star of Some Like It Hot.

The two actresses also share several other striking similarities. Both were naturally brunette before becoming famous Hollywood blondes and ultimately turning into sex symbols of their respective generations.

Their appearances, however, have sometimes overshadowed their acting abilities. Sweeney has earned critical acclaim for her roles in The White Lotus and Euphoria, as well as the films Christy and Reality.

Monroe, meanwhile, was seeking to move beyond her image as a sex symbol shortly before her death in 1962, taking on more serious dramatic roles. Critics particularly praised her performance in the 1961 film The Misfits.

Another surprising similarity involves religion. Both women were raised in the Christian tradition and later converted to Judaism.

Marilyn Monroe converted to Judaism in 1956, shortly before marrying American playwright Arthur Miller, who was Jewish.

Meanwhile, according to media reports, Sweeney has not ruled out converting to Judaism because of her relationship with former music executive Scooter Braun, who is a committed Zionist and supporter of Israel.
