Ben Affleck has made a rare public comment about his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez, while also revealing the amusing nickname his daughter gave him after the actor repeatedly became the subject of viral memes.

The 54-year-old two-time Oscar winner worked with 57-year-old Lopez on Kiss of the Spider Woman after their divorce. The film was released last year, just seven months after the couple officially ended their marriage.

Despite widespread praise for Lopez’s performance, there was little awards-season buzz surrounding her. The singer and actress had also previously been snubbed for an Oscar nomination for her role in the 2019 film Hustlers.

In a new interview with Variety, Affleck was asked why he believes Lopez remains “underrated.” His response was unexpectedly warm toward his former wife.

“I’m biased. I have tremendous respect and admiration for what she’s capable of,” he admitted.

Affleck also noted that the results of various awards do not always align with his personal tastes.

“I’ve come to understand that in the awards world, the degree of commercial success doesn’t always correspond with my taste. That’s part of this strange, subjective business, where people bring so much of themselves into it,” the actor explained.

Affleck, who has been nominated for two Oscars and won both times, admitted that he does not always consider the decisions of awards juries fair.

Despite their split, the former couple appear to have remained on good terms. Last October, they attended the New York premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman together and posed on the red carpet.

Affleck also has three children with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner — 20-year-old Violet, 17-year-old Fin, and 14-year-old Samuel. The actor and Garner were married from 2005 to 2018.

In recent years, Affleck has repeatedly become the subject of viral memes. Photos of the actor smoking a cigarette, struggling with a spilled Dunkin’ order and portraying a gloomy Batman have all gone viral online.

Now it turns out that even his internet fame has become a source of family jokes. According to Affleck, his eldest daughter gave him a fitting nickname: “the beleaguered man” — essentially, a man who looks worn out or as though life has taken its toll on him.
