Silicon Valley has become the scene of a new gold rush, with women from around the world flocking to California in hopes of marrying wealthy artificial intelligence professionals. At the top of their wish lists are employees of OpenAI and Anthropic, whose fortunes could soar if the companies go public.
“Number one would be Anthropic and OpenAI. If someone works at one of these big companies, obviously, they’re going to be huge after the IPO,” Qinghua Zhao, founder of Chinese dating service 2RedBeans, told the New York Post.
According to Zhao, female clients who once simply looked for men on the US East or West Coast are increasingly specifying where they want a potential partner to live and what he should do for a living. AI engineers have become particularly sought-after husbands.
Matchmaker Amy Yang, a former tax analyst at Oracle, confirms that women are traveling to Silicon Valley specifically to meet technology professionals. One of her clients from Los Angeles even considered spending six months in San Francisco, home to OpenAI and other AI companies.
Sue Zhong, a 34-year-old entrepreneur born in China and based in Los Angeles, has already consulted several matchmakers. She hopes to find a man who not only shares her interests but also helps develop technologies that could change the world.
Others are considerably more pragmatic. A divorced Chinese-American entrepreneur in her 40s openly described marriage as a financial strategy.
“For me, marriage at this point is an asset restructuring,” she admitted. She plans to move to Silicon Valley and is looking for a partner with clear financial prospects, particularly someone working at a company preparing for an initial public offering.
The stakes are high. According to media reports, Anthropic is targeting a stock market debut in mid-November, potentially at a valuation exceeding $2 trillion. Meanwhile, in October 2025, more than 600 current and former OpenAI employees reportedly sold $6.6 billion worth of shares. Around 75 people were said to have had the opportunity to cash out stock packages worth approximately $30 million each.
“For a man who earns a salary, there isn’t that much left after taxes. I’ve been through the whole system,” Zhong explained. “Unless he’s a CEO or belongs to another category of very high earners.”
But money and promising career prospects do not guarantee romantic success. Matchmakers say many technology professionals are consumed by their work, socialize little outside their professional circles and do not always know how to navigate romantic relationships.
The men, meanwhile, have their own expectations. Successful AI professionals want educated women with stable careers. And as their fortunes grow, Zhao says, so do their expectations regarding a future wife’s appearance.
“If his net worth has gone up, then of course he’s going to want a woman who is a little prettier,” the matchmaker said.
