The Chanel craze sparked by Matthieu Blazy’s appointment as the fashion house’s creative director has become so intense that some of the brand’s bags are selling for more on the resale market than they cost in boutiques. According to Fashionphile’s 2026 report, buyers are willing to pay premiums of up to 15% for sought-after Chanel styles, WWD reports.
Fashionphile, a platform specialising in pre-owned luxury goods, found that Chanel’s Souplissimo and Archetype Tote bags resell for an average of 13% above their retail prices. Buyers are paying even more for the Urban Essential styles, with resale prices running approximately 15% higher.
Chanel is not the only luxury brand whose accessories are commanding a premium. For the second consecutive year, the Louis Vuitton Speedy remains the platform’s best-selling bag, with its resale value rising 16.2% over the past year. Chanel’s Double Flap took second place, while Prada’s Re-Edition climbed from eighth to third.
Goyard’s Saint Louis made its debut in the top 10, securing seventh place, while the Celine Ava dropped out of the ranking entirely. One of the year’s biggest surprises was the Fendi Spy bag: fuelled by the revival of 2000s fashion, its average resale value surged by 127%.
In footwear, the leading styles were Hermès Oran sandals, Gucci Ace sneakers and Louis Vuitton Star Trail ankle boots. Hermès Clipper topped the watch category, followed by Cartier Panthère and Gucci Interchangeable Bezel.
Hermès also claimed the top spot in the earrings category, with its Farandole designs emerging as the most popular. Louis Vuitton’s Louise hoop earrings came second, followed by Van Cleef & Arpels’ Sweet Alhambra studs.
In rings, Cartier Love took the lead, ahead of Hermès Chaîne d’Ancre Enchaînée and Chanel Coco Crush. Among bracelets, shoppers most frequently opted for Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra, Hermès Clic Clac and Cartier Love.
Fashionphile’s report offers a snapshot of the evolving luxury resale market, highlighting the brands and designs that continue to attract strong demand. In some cases, the frenzy surrounding a particular accessory transforms it from a fashionable purchase into an item that commands more on the second-hand market than its original retail price.
