Sharon Stone, 68, Recreates Iconic Basic Instinct Scene 34 Years Later

20:26, October 22

Sharon Stone has revisited one of the most controversial moments in Hollywood history. The 68-year-old actress has recreated her iconic look from the erotic thriller Basic Instinct for a special photoshoot for ELLE Spain, marking the magazine’s 40th anniversary.

In one of the photographs, the star poses on a chair wearing a green trench coat, showing off her long, toned legs. The look references the famous police interrogation scene in which Stone played Catherine Tramell, the writer who made the actress an international star.

In the scene, Tramell answers police questions while provocatively crossing and uncrossing her legs, leaving the men in the room bewildered. Filmed without underwear, the sequence sparked fierce controversy and went on to become one of the most infamous moments in cinema history.

Stone has previously claimed that she was misled about how the scene would appear on screen. In her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, the actress recalled becoming furious when she saw during a preview that the camera had revealed far more than she had expected. She said she even slapped director Paul Verhoeven before walking out of the screening.

Verhoeven has categorically rejected Stone’s claims that she did not know how the scene would be filmed. Despite their disagreement, the actress later said she did not regret taking part in the movie.

In her interview with ELLE Spain, Stone also discussed how serious health problems transformed her life. After suffering a stroke and a brain hemorrhage in 2001, she had to relearn how to walk, speak and read. While she was recovering, her career effectively came to a standstill.

“Despite everything, I managed to recover, but the job offers disappeared,” she admitted.

According to Stone, women facing serious health problems could effectively be written off by the entertainment industry. She also noted that people find it difficult to imagine that a woman considered beautiful and intelligent can also be vulnerable, shy and sensitive.

Today, Stone is gradually returning to an active career. Two films are in the pipeline, she is completing work on an art exhibition in Prague, and she recently played a powerful executive in the series Euphoria.

The actress has also previously revealed that she lost millions of dollars in savings while recovering from her stroke.
