Thomas Markle Sr. has become embroiled in a major scandal after his son alerted police to the alleged discovery of hundreds of images depicting child sexual abuse. However, Thomas’s daughter, Samantha Markle, has vehemently denied the allegations, claiming her brother fabricated the story in an attempt to make money.
According to the Daily Mail, Thomas Markle Jr., 60, claims he discovered four large boxes of suspicious material at his father’s home in the Philippines. He alleges that the contents included hundreds of images and a 15-minute video featuring girls who were reportedly under the age of 11. He also claims that numerous file thumbnails stored on his father’s computer appeared to link to child sexual abuse material.
Thomas Jr. said he first came across the suspicious files over the summer while looking for a mobile phone for his Filipino girlfriend. On July 10, he reported his findings to the relevant US authorities and Pennsylvania police, where his father was living at the time. Concerned by what he described as a lack of response, he later enlisted the help of a local IT specialist to access three hard drives that he claims contained most of the material.
Thomas Markle’s son has submitted a sworn statement to Philippine police. According to the newspaper, authorities have launched an investigation and are preparing to seize potential evidence. At the time of publication, however, the allegations had not been substantiated, and there was no report that Thomas Markle Sr. had been formally charged.
Samantha Markle, who cares for her 82-year-old father, has strongly condemned her brother’s claims. She described the allegations as disgusting and baseless, accusing him of trying to profit from the scandal after their father stopped providing him with financial support.
“There is absolutely no basis for these disgusting allegations. My brother wants to destroy our father. He needs money — that’s what this is all about,” Samantha said.
According to her, the computers had been packed up in Mexico, shipped to the Philippines and stored in the basement of a building for some time before the boxes eventually ended up at Thomas Jr.’s home. Samantha claims their father had not had access to the devices for approximately two years, making it impossible to establish who might have used them.
“There is no evidence that my father downloaded these images. The computers were out of his possession for two years. Anyone could have accessed them or altered their contents during that time,” she said, suggesting that her father may have been deliberately set up.
Samantha also accused her brother of allegedly selling sensational stories about their father to the press for money in the past. She pointed to previous claims by Thomas Jr. that their father had used cocaine with prostitutes in Thailand, which she maintains were fabricated.
Thomas Markle Sr. has been at odds with his daughter Meghan for years. Their relationship broke down shortly before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. After suffering two heart attacks, he was unable to attend the ceremony in Windsor. They have not spoken since, and Thomas has never met his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
A source close to Meghan told the newspaper that the latest developments may help explain why the Duchess of Sussex has remained estranged from her father since 2018. Meghan herself has not publicly commented on the new allegations.
Samantha, meanwhile, stressed that her father is seriously ill and too frail to defend himself against public accusations. In recent years, Thomas has suffered a stroke and several heart attacks. Last December, he underwent an amputation of his left leg below the knee. He also recently had another stent fitted after tests reportedly showed that his heart was functioning at only 30 percent of its capacity.
“Dad has survived two heart attacks, a stroke and an amputation. His life is hanging by a thread, and subjecting him to all of this is incredibly cruel,” Samantha said.
She insists that she will not believe the allegations against her father until it is established who owned the material in question and who had access to the devices. The investigation is ongoing, and the final conclusions will be up to law enforcement.
