Beatrice Coyle, a former Miss Switzerland contestant, has alleged that Donald Trump raped her at New York’s Plaza Hotel in November 1993. Her account is detailed in a new report by Democrats on the US House Judiciary Committee examining the president’s alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein and his network of sexual exploitation.
The report alleges that the Donald J. Trump American Dream Pageant, a beauty contest for contestants aged 16 to 22, may have been used by Trump, Epstein and others to identify vulnerable girls and young women. Trump has not been charged with a crime in connection with Coyle’s allegations.
The White House has categorically denied the claims. Administration spokesperson Lauren Bis told PEOPLE that the allegations were false and that the Democrats’ report was an attempt to distract the public. She also reiterated the administration’s position that Trump cut ties with Epstein because he considered him an unpleasant person and had been fully exonerated in matters related to the financier.
According to the report, Coyle was 24 in 1993. She was working as a model and in financial services when Jill Harth invited her to participate in the pageant, which was held in Atlantic City and New York.
During a press luncheon at the Plaza Hotel, then owned by Trump, the businessman allegedly offered to help her obtain a visa and enroll at New York University. Coyle says Epstein approached her shortly afterward and made similar promises, including an invitation to a party at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
Later, a Trump representative allegedly invited Coyle to his hotel suite to meet him. She expected the conversation to help advance her career and education. However, according to her account, once inside the suite, Trump grabbed her from behind and raped her. Coyle described the alleged assault as violent and said she sustained injuries and bruises.
After the incident, the report alleges, Trump again promised to help her with a visa and university admission, while demanding that she remain silent. According to Coyle, he told her: “The show must go on.”
Following the incident, Coyle withdrew from the pageant while in a state of severe distress, according to the report, and subsequently returned to Switzerland. Several weeks later, she declined to participate in another pageant organized by Trump in Hawaii. Months afterward, she says, the businessman called her in Switzerland and once again offered to help her obtain a visa and enroll at university, but she refused.
The authors of the report also cite other accounts, including a 1997 sexual assault lawsuit filed against Trump by Jill Harth. They draw parallels between Coyle’s account and those of women who alleged that Epstein lured them with promises of educational opportunities and career advancement.
The new allegations have also renewed attention to the case of writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of raping her in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York in the 1990s. Trump denied her allegations.
In May 2023, a civil jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her, although it did not find that rape had been established under the legal definition applied in that trial. The court awarded Carroll $5.6 million in damages. In August, the US Supreme Court declined to review the case, after which the writer’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, said the jury’s verdict had become final.
Beatrice Coyle’s allegations are presented in the Democrats’ report and have not resulted in criminal charges against Trump in connection with this incident. The White House denies her claims.
