Dolly Parton's life story may continue to unfold even after the singer's death, and it could cost publishers a fortune. The unpublished memoir of the Queen of Country has reportedly sold for a staggering $13 million following a fierce bidding war between publishing houses. Now, fans are wondering what revelations the legendary performer left behind, after decades of balancing her dazzling stage persona with remarkable privacy in her personal life.
According to Page Six, the rights to the book have been acquired by American publisher Grand Central Publishing. Sources told the outlet that publishers were initially asked to bid $12 million for the manuscript. However, the asking price reportedly stunned the publishing world, prompting many potential bidders to withdraw from the race. Grand Central Publishing later raised its offer and is said to have secured the memoir rights for $13 million.
The final financial terms of the deal remain unclear, however. One source suggested that the upfront payment may have been lower than the reported figure, while the singer's heirs could receive half of the book's future royalties.
The biggest mystery is what the book actually contains. It is not yet known when Parton worked on the manuscript or which chapters of her life she chose to explore in detail. The memoir could also be part of a broader effort to preserve her creative legacy, a plan that Parton and her team may have been developing during her lifetime.
The singer died in August 2026 at the age of 80. Her longtime manager, Danny Nozell, previously revealed that Parton continued working on new projects until her final days and had already been thinking about how her work would be presented to the public in the years to come.
Now, the newly revealed manuscript could offer fans another glimpse into the artist's life. Whether it will touch on her personal struggles, the behind-the-scenes world of the music industry, or events she preferred to keep out of the public eye remains to be seen.
