Former Playboy model Karissa Shannon has made shocking claims about the demands of the magazine’s founder, Hugh Hefner, alleging that he tried to force her and her twin sister, Kristina, to have sex with each other. In an interview with Page Six, the 37-year-old backed up claims made by Hefner’s widow, Crystal Harris, that he insisted on sexual acts involving incestuous themes.
Karissa said she was surprised by the public reaction to the mere mention of incest, arguing that such suspicions should have arisen long ago. She had previously described sex with Hefner as “assault” and “rape.” One incident involved an alleged group-sex encounter that she and Kristina were pressured into on their 19th birthday.
“He tried to make me and my sister have sex with each other,” Karissa said. She stressed, however, that the twins never actually had an intimate relationship with one another.
“We never did it. We pretended. Every single time. And it was horrible. We completely faked the whole thing,” she said.
According to Karissa, Crystal Harris, who was married to Hefner from December 2012 until his death in September 2017, knew that the sisters were only pretending. Hefner, she claimed, had no idea and believed their performances were real.
“He wanted to watch it, he wanted us to touch each other, and he would say that if we really loved each other, we should do it together,” Karissa recalled.
The sisters had agreed in advance to pretend, determined not to comply with Hefner’s demands. Both knew they did not want to take part and stuck to their decision.
Karissa also said the experience made her think about other twin sisters, Sandy and Mandy Bentley, who were regular guests at the Playboy Mansion in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She speculated that it may have been harder for them to pretend, as Hefner was younger at the time and potentially more difficult to fool.
Several years after leaving Playboy, Karissa ran into the sisters at a party. She recalled that they seemed very quiet and withdrawn.
“I looked at them and thought, ‘God, I feel so bad for them. It seems like that place broke them.’ I promised myself then that I wouldn't stay at the mansion for long,” she said.
The Shannon twins lived at Hefner’s famous Los Angeles mansion from the ages of 18 to 20. Karissa also admitted that, before moving in, she had no idea that the many women surrounding the media mogul were actually having sexual relationships with him and other men.
After leaving Hefner, the sisters continued working in the adult film industry for almost another decade, including appearing together in productions. They previously explained that they viewed the work as a means of survival.
