Gary Glitter is found guilty of sex attacks

14:35, February 6

Gary Glitter, the former glam rock star, has been convicted of a string of new child sex offences by a jury at Southwark Crown Court, The Guardian reported.

A jury of five men and seven women took two days to convict the flamboyant star, now 70, of six offences, committed in the 1970’s and 1980’s, including the attempted rape of an eight-year-old child and having unlawful sex with a 12-year-old girl, a charge which carries a life sentence.

It has now emerged that Glitter was almost exposed more than 20 years ago - when Sophie Dahl's mother Tessa, who did not know about his offending, described seeing him with crowds of 'adolescent girls in school uniform' during an episode of This Is Your Life.

Judge Alistair McCreath told the former star he was remanding him in custody “in light of the verdicts”. He will be sentenced on the morning of 27 February.
