Hugh Grant has shared the reason why he cheated on Elizabeth Hurley with sex worker Divine Brown in 1995, Mirror reported.

The Hollywood actor, 60, has reflected on being arrested for lewd conduct in the 90s alongside call girl Divine on Los Angeles' Sunset Boulevard.

British native Hugh says the incident happened following him watching himself in his debut movie Nine Months and that he was left so unimpressed with his acting skills.

Hugh told that following seeing the film he questioned his performance and was "not in a good frame of mind" before "one thing led to another."

Speaking to Marc Maron on his WTF podcast, the star thought back to the incident and told: "I was about to launch my first Hollywood film—my timing was impeccable. My problem was—that was my first Hollywood film and I’d just been to see it.

"The film was about to come out a week or two after that, and I had a bad feeling about it. I went to see a screening. Everyone in it was brilliant, but I was so atrocious that I was not in a good frame of mind."

Continuing on how the day went, he added: "I had a Ken Russell kind of lunch—and one thing led to another. I just was disappointed in myself. I don't know what was going on. It was called Nine Months."

Hugh had nothing to worry about—with the film—as it ended up debuting at number three at the US box office and went on to gross $138.5 million worldwide.

Acknowledging the movie's success, during the chat, he added: "The film did alright at the box office, in fact I think it did quite well, and that’s all Hollywood really cares about."

The Four Weddings and a Funeral star was arrested for lewd behavior and handed a $1,180 fine in Los Angeles in 1995 after paying Divine $60 to perform a sex act on him.

Following his arrest, Hugh released a statement that read: "Last night I did something completely insane. I have hurt people I love and embarrassed people I work with. For both things I am more sorry than I can ever possibly say."

Despite the huge publicity which followed the case, his cinema career was not seriously affected, striking more box-office gold, while his relationship with Hurley recovered and lasted for another five years.

At the time of the incident, Hugh was in a relationship with Elizabeth Hurley the scandal did not lead to their immediate split as they remained together until the year 2000.

Following their 13-year romance, the pair have remained close friends.
