Warner Bros. studio is going to give the "green light" to a second "Joker", Puck News reported.
Director Todd Phillips will return to the project.
Phillips, who also serves as screenwriter on the project, is close to signing on. Whether Joaquin Phoenix is going to participate in the sequel is unknown. The film also does not have an official release date.
"Joker" was released in the fall of 2019 and told the story of the famous villain's origins. The plot is centered on failed standup comedian Arthur Fleck with a mental disorder who decides to take revenge on a society steeped in vice.
The film earned over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office (on a $55 million budget) and earned Phoenix an Oscar for Best Actor. "The Joker" also won the grand prize at the Venice Film Festival "Golden Lion".
