US investigation into Alec Baldwin shooting is over

14:02, October 28

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office in the U.S. state of New Mexico has concluded an investigation into the shooting involving actor Alec Baldwin, who accidentally shot and killed female cameraman Halyna Hutchins on set,  Los Angeles Times reports.

It is specified that the case has been referred to the local prosecutor. "The district attorney and her team of investigators and prosecutors will now begin a thorough review of the information and evidence to make a thoughtful, timely decision about whether to bring charges," the sheriff's office office said.

The law enforcement report did not specify whether investigators had determined there was sufficient evidence to file criminal charges. A source familiar with the situation told the publication.

Hutchins died in October 2021. Baldwin fired a gun during the filming of the western "Rust," accidentally killing her and injuring the film's director, Joel Souza. As the actor claimed, he did not pull the trigger, but merely cocked and released the trigger, following the directions of Hutchins, who was lining up the shot. The gun was supposed to be loaded with blank cartridges, but they turned out to be live ammunition.

Earlier it became known that American actor and producer Alec Baldwin will continue to work on the film "Rust". Filming will resume in January 2023.
