The new Maserati GranCabrio is the fastest electric convertible in the world. The Italian marque has just unveiled the battery-powered Folgore version of its open-top grand tourer. However, the new model doesn't just take the top spot in the GranCabrio lineup. It's also the fastest electric convertible ever, says Robb Report.
The luxurious interior seats four, with 18-way adjustable front seats and built-in neck warmers. The standard Econyl upholstery has a premium appearance despite being made from recycled nylon. The car's soft top can open or close at speeds up to 50 mph and folds compactly into the trunk to preserve cargo space.
The big difference between the Folgore and the rest of the GranCabrio range, of course, is the powertrain. The convertible uses the same 800-volt architecture as the GranTurismo Folgore and is powered by three electric motors—one at the front and two at the rear—that together produce 751 hp.
If that's not enough, there's also a temporary "MaxBoost" mode that increases total power to 818 horses. Maserati's press release doesn't mention any performance figures, but The Drive reports that the car can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, zero to 120 mph in nine seconds, and reach a top speed of 181 miles per hour. The latter number makes this car the fastest electric convertible in the world.
The arrival of the convertible means drivers now have three Folgore electric vehicles to choose from, including the battery-powered GranTurismo and the Grecale SUV; there's also an electric powerboat called the Tridente.
Maserati hasn't said when the GranCabrio Folgore will go on sale, but it will likely be by the end of the year. The price has not yet been revealed, but it will certainly be considerably higher than the 2024 GranCabrio Trofeo at $189,900.
