Festival The world premiere of the documentary film “Black Garden” by French Armenian photographer and filmmaker from Paris, Alexis Pazumyan, will take place at the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, reports the Armenian Film Society.
"Black Garden" tells the story of three generations caught in the uncertainty of war in Nagorno-Karabakh. The documentary centers on children Samvel and Avo, a young soldier Eric, a lumberjack and a war veteran Karen, living in the Armenian village of Talish in Nagorno-Karabakh. The main characters are trying to come to terms with the new reality after the war: Eric is wounded, Karen flees to Karabakh capital Stepanakert, and the families of Samvel and Avo seek refuge in Armenia’s capital Yerevan.
“Most of the film takes place in Armenia, as most of my characters are now deported, but I also show their homeland, back in Nagorno-Karabakh: [we see] what is left of it - desolate and disfigured landscapes and lost souls like Karen's. refugee in Stepanakert. This area represents an open wound for the characters. This is their dark and beloved land - their black garden."
International rights of this film are handled by Toronto-based Syndicado Film Sales.
